| Modifying a Plustek 7200 dpi dedicated scanner
Status: Research & Theory
You may ask why anyone would want to modify a PlusTek OpticFilm scanner, given that it already achieves 3500 dpi (reference: http://filmscanner.info/en/PlustekOpticFilm7500i.html) or 16 megapixels out of a 35mm frame, for special applications there is need for more resolution, and that fact it's wasting over half of its potential resolution, for example: high resolution films like Adox CMS 20.
The other reason is to scan larger film sizes - even if in 36x24mm overlapping sections by use of a larger film holder and a rail to move the film holder side to side and back and forth.
The premise of this mod is to replace the lens used in the PlusTek with a sharper lens (a prime lens that's sharp at f/5.6 will potentially resolve 7200 dpi being under the diffraction limit of f/6.4 for 7200 dpi)
